- Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad
Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad (BdMO) is a recognized annual mathematical competition organized by the Bangladesh Math Olympiad Committee (BdMOC) for school & college student (class III to XII) chiefly to cherish and promote mathematical interest & merit of the students and to prepare & send them for International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad (BdMO) came into existence in April 2001 by the initiative of Dr Muhammed Zafar Iqbal, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and also the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SUST; and Dr. M. Kaykobad, Professor of Department of Computer Science and Engineering at BUET along with adequate support from the Daily Prothom alo Editor Matiur Rahman.
Bangladesh Math Olympiad Committee (BdMOC) for the first time nationally organized Math Olympiad on 31st January & 1st February 2003. The first Math Olympiad held in the campus of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Prothom Alo provides financial support & other assistance to organize the competition. In the first Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad more than 250 students participated from about 105 institutions.
Since 2005, Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad has been sending Bangladeshi students in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which was its one of the primary goals. Currently, BdMO regularly arranges regional and national Math Olympiad by the support of Prothom Alo and the Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL). The normal timing of the festivals is around December?anuary?ebruary. It also provides cooperation to all enthusiastic groups and personals to arrange Math Olympiad in the country. Besides, it supervises Bangladesh National Math Camp and Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad (APMO).
