Association for Social Advancement (ASA) is a leading non-government organization (NGO) in Bangladesh. ASA NGO was founded in 1978 by its current President Md. Shafiqual Haque Choudhury along with a few people who were engaged in other established NGOs. Association for Social Advancement is registered in NGO Affairs Bureau, and Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC), Government of Bangladesh. The Association is providing microcredit financing to the disadvantaged/underprivileged people and women entrepreneurs. Among the world’s top 50 microfinance institutions, ASA became the “Number 1” in Forbes Magazine’s list published in December 2007. Today, ASA NGO has become apparent as one of the largest Microfinance Institutions (MFI) in the world. The Association’s main object is to gradually eradicate poverty from society.
ASA Microfinance facilitates five million poor. It is empowering women towards eradicating poverty. The Association undertakes primary education strengthening program, health awareness program, water and sanitation program, primary healthcare service program and more. At present, it has 2,933+ branches across the country where it is serving more than 4.859 million clients of whom majority are female.
Association for Social Advancement (ASA) is also providing cooperation to small local NGO-MFIs (Microfinance Institutions) in the country. The Association is now supporting more than 19 partner NGO-MFIs. Since 1993, ASA’s activities have been spread in more than 17 countries – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Nigeria, Jordan, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Yemen, Ethiopia, Peru, and Mauritius – where it is providing Technical Assistance (TA) and microfinance consultancy services.
